A facebook page “drivers for registration of cyclists” is getting a lot of coverage lately. They are at the moment campaigning through change.org to make it compulsory for cyclists to ride single…Continue

Contractors upgrading the freeway lighting system have closed the bike track on the Crafers side of the Mt Osmond intersection. It appears they do not have authority to do that, as none of the…Continue

How Copenhagen Became A Cycling Paradise By Considering The Full Cost Of Cars

Started this discussion. Last reply by Bill Gehling Jun 26, 2015. 8 Replies

Copenhagen is known as a cyclist paradise, a place where the bike is treated equally, if not preferentially, to the car. There are long-running cultural reasons for this—the Danes are into bikes,…Continue

"Thanks Wendy. That's precisely why we can't let the pollies think that a once-off tokenistic gesture (like installing bike hoops) will do. As Peter and Sam point out, $19m goes a long way when you spend it on infrastructure for bikes and…"

"I'd be keen to ask your wife why she only rides once every year or two. Is a hoop at the station going to change her mind? I'm guessing she's like my wife and has other reasons for not riding more often. Safety and fear of traffic…"

"Sam, I agree with your comments on park & ride carparking. It is an extremely inefficient way of using space and generating public transport customers. It simply does not scale in any location with even moderate land values. It is a perfect…"

Bill Gehling replied to Savvas's discussion Let's Make 'Cycle Park 'n' Ride' a Real Issue in the Coming SA Elections!
"Sorry to be a bit of a damp squib on this one Sam, but I’m not convinced that bike parking would be a particularly high priority issue to run for the election. It’s not likely to convince anyone to cycle who isn’t already riding.…"

What's happened to Australian Cyclist Magazine?

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 0:01 3 Comments

For years I've enjoyed getting the "Australian Cyclist" magazine as part of my BISA life-membership. A few months back a soppy flower-power rag called "Treadlie" started appearing instead. As far as I'm concerned the content of "Treadlie" is totally not worth reading, and a bit of an insult to those of us who think cycling has a serious fun future.

The "Australian Cyclist" website is still calling for subscriptions, though I notice it's moved out of Bicycle NSW, and operates out of an…

Note that you are a life member of BISA. My membership fee is due and I dislike Treadlie (which I have told BISA). Might investigate Bicycle Network and their rideOn magazine.
