Perhaps the RSL Active people would like to post some more details of the event plans to give people more confidence in its organisation?

Routine stuff like who is in charge of the operations and their previous experience with cycling events, signage/marshals along the route, arrangements for broom wagon and mechanical support, pacing and regroups, escorted sections, public liability insurance etc.

Supported charity cycling events are a popular bandwagon to jump onto, but difficult to organise well in a small market like Adelaide where it's tough to get the numbers needed to get good returns. Some might remember that there were two that failed in 2014 alone - the Ride To Conquer Cancer (not repeated after the 2013 edition returned less than ten cents in every dollar) and the MS Endure (which never got off the ground).

Hi David,
Thank you for your comment.
The event is being managed, promoted by Royal Adelaide Show and the R U Ok Organisation, RSL Active are helping with the logistics of the cycling part only of the event.

RSL Active, formerly Soldier On SA were very experienced in holding cycling events in Victoria with Cadel Evans and his race in Geelong, group ride fully supported for veterans during the TDU for the seven days with support vehicles etc with up to 25 riders a day. Also some of the RSL Active staff have worked overseas in cycling events for charities, Ride 4 Repat Foundation, Amy's Gran Fondo as well as managing and competing in the Invictus Games.

While this may not attract a large amount of participation it is all about starting a conversation is what we would like the message to send.
There are 4 x support vehicles, with mechanical support kindly provided by International Cycles, with ride marshals along the route. At this stage with the anticipated numbers and liaising with Bill Fauser from SAPOL it isn't required to have rolling road blocks etc. Public Liability is on ownership by RAS (Royal Adelaide Show) with the waiver attached at the registration stage.

It's not all about the ride as there is an opportunity for 4 of the charity sponsors involved in this event to have a marquee set up at the Royal Adelaide Show for the entire day to promote their individual cause, (where ours is about veterans and their families) so this is a great chance for these organisations to engage with the community and the added bonus is the RAS are allowing volunteers with donation tins at each entry point of the show grounds for that day.

Look forward to seeing you out there on the day. Hope I have cleared things up and answered your questions?

Thanks for providing that info.

I unfortunately won't know if I can be there until the week of the event, but in case I can't then I wish you and the team all the best with it.

MIFSA is one of the charities I have supported for some time now, and I'm pleased to see they are one of the charities involved.
