New bike for a 12 year old.

I'm looking at getting a bike for my fairly tall daughter, when she turns 12, which is soon.  We borrowed a friends Avanti Metro 1, which she liked.  But they seem a bit pricey and heavy and the Altus derailleur is apparently low quality.  Perhaps I'm expecting too much for $500 to $600.  Any thoughts?  I think the pull-back handlebars might be a big part of the attraction / ease of riding.

Hi Liz, welcome.

Have you seen DPTI's Cycle Instead journey planner? It works by offering you low traffic or flat or max shared path routes from A to B.

http://maps.sa.gov.au/cycleinstead/

See how you go with it but off the top of my head I would ride towards Maylands, down to the river near the old DPTI building at Walkerville, up towards the ABC, cross there and up Galway taking a left towards Prospect. Just one suggestion.

Hi.  So glad to have found this group!  Just wondering if anybody commutes through the parklands and knows a good route to take from the Norwood area to Prospect. I'll be commuting with my daughter in a trailer.  Thanks

Does anyone want to borrow our old kid's trailer to try? It's a Croozer single seater (with stroller conversion).  Now that it's available again, I thought someone might like to try the idea before buying a new one for themselves. See previous comment on wall with photo by Paul Anderson in 2010.  I'm having trouble finding the bottom half of the flag pole and the jogger conversion is no longer available.

Adam, we've got a trail gator kit and we've also got one extra tower attachment (for the other adults seat post) and some trail gator trainer wheels - which can be easily turned up when towing.  $40.00 for the lot.  See my friend request if interested.

Hi everyone.

I'm on the lookout for a second hand trail gator to purchase.  If you or anyone you know wants to sell, please let me know.

Cheers.

Hi Paul.. Avanti Lil Rippers are the best! My son loves his. I don't think he's ever going to give it up for pedals and chain.

As see here chasing down the SASI junior rider at CX last month
